It’s a brand that we dreamily run our fingers over in the glossy pages of Grazia & Marie Claire but how much do we know about it, and more importantly how much do we know about the Designer..
Having recently received the words *music to our ears in email form* that bStore would now be stocking their footwear with us I took it upon myself to delve a little deeper into the luxe label.
Catering for both genders in apparel and footwear the bStore brand offers a ‘purist approach to fashion’ with its ‘discreet design and unique brand aesthetic’.
The brand brings a whole lot of goodness to the table, seasonally it collaborates with established names such as Liberty, Baracuta and Gloverall to produce capsule collections that take on a modern approach and hold a creative point of difference. Another fun fact is that the store is also a residence for installations by emerging artists & designers.
So who is the Designer? [Not to be confused with the creators and co-founders Matthew Murphy and Kirk Beattie. ] Her name is Chloe Struyk. She started off in 2010 and made her debut at London Fashion Week showcasing the Spring/Summer 2012 range.
Originally from Manchester, Chloe spent some time in New York interning for Derek Lam and Philip Lim. Yes, amazing. When she returned she worked for Richard Nicoll before landing a position as a Designer for the iconic British Fashion Designer Vivienne Westwood.
I gave her a quick quiz of questions before processing an order for the Claire 1 ;)
Tea or coffee? Tea
Boots or Brogues? Boots
How would you describe your personal style? Military chic with a dash of 90s denim.
Where do you find inspiration? Everywhere… but mainly from films and photography.
Does this reflect directly in the collections? Yes the collections usually pay homage to the films we are watching at the time, for example ss12 was influenced by 90s cinema with a nod to Thelma and Louise etc.
Describe your typical day at work? Some drawing, some emailling and some surfing of the interweb to find some amazing new things.
Which other current designers do you admire? I think Givenchy have been doing amazing things recently.
Do you have a muse? My influences change to regularly to have a muse as such, but most of my inspiration comes from my friends.
And there you have it. Chloe Struyk + bStore design. Check out the range here

Last night we attended the Susie Bubble event hosted by Portable TV followed by a Q&A with Harpers Bazaar Editor, Edwina McCann. Susie Lau is a very humble and intelligent human being, friendly, warm and stylish. She gave us an insight to what it’s really like being a ”full time fashion blogger” and how far she has come in the past 6 years since the start of her blog. In Susie’s blog she documents her experiences with Fashion by posting an in depth and insight approach to her exploration of personal style, things that she is inspired by & interesting topics. The culture of fashion is a big one with events that she attends, exhibitions, fashion weeks, art gallery openings etc etc. Craft is another, being fascinated with behind the scenes of brands Susie will go deep into the processes of how certain things are made, be it a tweed from the Isle of Paris or the made-to-order Louis Vuitton luggage. This is an important part of keeping the heritage of a brand known, and informing people as to why something might be expensive, rather than the ideology that something is just a brand with a logo splattered everywhere. And of course, talent, Susie loves new and emerging designers, people who are creative and unknown to the world. Funnily enough, after her talk I actually bumped into a girl in the bathroom who I had previously only been in touch with by email, Lisa Twomey. We were both at the event by ourselves so decided to stick together. She is an incredible artist that was featured on Susie’s blog a few days ago @ MBFWA wearing one of her creations (Susie’s picture shown below) and after the mad rush of everyone wanting to quiz Susie on a zillion different things we got to enjoy a few beers with her without the normal OMG OMG I LOVE YOU banter. Lisa made a jacket for Susie (pictured below) and gave it to her last night, it was a hit! Hand stitched and adorned with lace, neon whosey-whatsits, kitschy bejeweled plastic rhinestones, fur, and probably some other weird & wonderful trinkets that I didn’t spot it really was an amazing gift that will be treasured by Susie forever.
A fun fact about Susie? When she was 14 she taught herself HTML and created her own online fanpage for Sailor Moon. Wowee!
